Taking a Great Sports Action Photo
The summertime in New Mexico is so beautiful that it’s almost torture to spend all day inside. This is the best time of year to go outside and take some great sports action shots. So get your camera ready and get shooting!
Action shots are fun to take, but can be a little intimidating if you aren’t sure how to start. If you’re newer to photography, we’ve got a few tips to get you started.
When you’re taking an action shot:
- Remember to relax. Your muscles can get very tense waiting for the perfect moment to snap.
- You can either follow the subject or focus on an area and wait for the action to come into view. This has to do with personal preference.
- A faster shutter speed will give you a sharper picture. If you are interested in showing movement, increase your shutter speed for a little blur.
- Practice any chance you get. Adjust your shutter speed, angle and point of interest to get a feel for your shooting style.
Most of all, enjoy the action! Sporting events are usually very fun, but being up close to the athletes is an experience!
