This past year has probably been a whirlwind of crazy. Dealing with the responsibilities of being a high school senior was tough. Finishing college applications. Getting ready for graduation. Finding a date to prom. The list can go on forever, can’t it?

Well, from all of us at Kim Jew Photography, congratulations! You made it.

Where did the Years Go?

Although it might feel like yesterday was the first day of high school, four years have passed. What happened over the years?

They have been filled with surprises, weddings, births, deaths, protests and the promise of a bright future. Whether you choose to stay in Albuquerque or travel to destinations, near or far, these years will stay with you. They’ve shaped who you are and who you will be. You are the sum of all of your experiences and now you’re off to create new ones.

Happy Mother’s Day.

You’ve been there through everything: our happy days, sad times, when we’ve been angry and made mistakes.

You’ve wiped our tears away, loved us even when we took too long in the shower, and were always the first one to cheer us on in the good and bad times. We’re not sure we would have been able to accomplish as much as we have without your constant guidance.

We can’t tell you how grateful that we are to have you in our lives. Every good thing that we’ve accomplished in our lives is the direct result of the influence that you’ve had on us. The impact that we’ve had on others is because of the impact that you’ve had on us. And for that, mom, we can never begin to repay you.

As you’re checking off your list of things to be done, do you feel like you might have forgotten something important? It’s normal to feel this way, especially when in a rush out the door. Here is a brief checklist of some of the things you’ll need for a shoot at Kim Jew Photography:

Wardrobe.

Depending on the package that you’ve booked, you might be able to change clothes a few times. Make sure that you choose clothes and accessories that will reflect the different sides of your personality.

Props.

For your session, we encourage you to bring something that is unique to you. We’ll try to incorporate different styles to your shoot so you’ll get a true reflection of your personality in your photos.

Ideas.

Even though we’re expert photographers, we’re not experts on you—yet. Come prepared with ideas and we’ll talk about what will work best.

Toys.

If you have children, it’s important to note that there can be a few minutes of down time between wardrobe changes. To help keep them entertained, don’t forget to pack some toys for them to play with.

Food.

Depending on the length and hour of your shoot, you might get hungry. Be sure to pack a snack or two to keep your energy up.

These are just some ideas to keep in mind for your session. Of course, things can come up during the day that can affect your mood. Keeping a positive attitude and outlook can not only make the shoot more enjoyable, it can also improve the quality of your photos.

Pick the right outdoor camera.

Beautiful weather calls for beautiful outdoor photography. But what kind of camera are you supposed to use? Here are some selections of outdoor cameras that can help you take some great shots:

Digital Camera

Usually reasonably priced, these cameras are great if you’re a beginner who just wants to snap a few photos of your family getaway. Most of these cameras have a good flash and decent zoom capabilities. Although you won’t achieve the quality of pictures of a top-of-the-line camera, a point-and-shoot digital camera is a great place to start.

Entry-Level Digital SLR’s (DX)

A definite step up from the simple point-and-shoot digital camera, Digital SLRs let the photographer capture more detail. These cameras operate with less automation than the simple digital camera allowing for more creativity from the photographer. Although a little bit bulkier and heavier to lug around, they are a great value for someone who is getting serious about photography.

Professional-Level SLR’s (FX)

The best-of-the-best, these cameras allow for the most detailed and intricate shots possible. The main difference between a DX and an FX shot is that with an FX shot, you’ll be able to get a full-frame picture. Add that to the unparalleled quality and this camera is a no-brainer for a professional photographer.

What Camera Should I Use?

Well, that depends on what kind of shoot you’ll be doing. Consider the time and difficulty that it will take to get to your destination (lugging a huge camera might not be possible); the weather (so you can pack the right lens); and what you’ll be taking pictures of (so you know what kind of camera to pack).

Most importantly, consider what kind of lighting you’ll have access to. Great weather can produce breathtaking natural light, but make sure you’ll be prepared if you get a lot of cloud cover.
